Resitter? Oh this blog is for you!

I love that I am a resitter!

I love that I failed some of my exams!

I love that I am now a coach and can really speak to and help resitters to give you the tools and techniques you need to be able to resit with confidence!

Of course I didn’t realise at the time!

Of course whilst I was qualifying I didn’t quite realise how amazing it was to be a resitter and how many skills and strengths I could have utilised to boost my confidence.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

And I’m here to make sure you don’t make the same mistakes as me.

As a revision coach I specialise giving the right tools and techniques to pass your exams with confidence
and as a classic resitter the majority of my clients are resitters.

I know exactly what you’re going through and thinking
guess what – I felt like that too!

Coaching and supporting resitters is my favourite thing to do, so you are in the right place!

Today’s blog is for you if you are a resitter. Learn my coaching tips, boost your resitting confidence and find your motivation in your resitting journey – it’s a fun journey!

Number 1 reason why being a resitter is so amazing

⭐ You get a 2nd chance to really understand the topics (like a real accountant needs to do at work)

Number two reason – you are smarter than you think!

Smarter not dumber – what do I mean…

? Yes smarter, really, because you have had real exam conditions experience and you have seen (felt, freaked, smelt) the real thing.

That is a smart piece in your revision armour in my opinion.

The learning and exam technique you can take from knowing what *this* exams’ conditions are like, needs to be a key part of your resit strategy (I love strategy and tactics) Have a read here for more revision blogs!

Use this smartness to your advantage.

Resitter perspective

I know it’s hard and frustrating – but yes you need to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and stand tall.

I’ve resat so many of my exams, ones where I failed with 49% (and needed 50% to pass) and ones where I really thought I had done “enough” but Mr CIMA didn’t agree! Plus my most embarrassing 36% failure mark #ouch

? Let’s grab hold of a positive perspective and squeeze it, love it and enjoy it! ?

Your perspective will focus on the confident motivating actions that you need to pass your exam!

Resitter perspective – that adds value

You have a choice.

You can feel sorry for yourself, you can think and tell yourself that “you weren’t good enough”.

Or you can

?Focus on a perspective that makes you happier and positively motivated to stay determined, resit and feel confident. {Yes really – being a confident resitter will help your resit so much}

Tip/task – write and think about the positive perspective you want that will add real value and motivation to your resit. Put the words up so you can see them every day.

Over- analysing

I feel like this is a default that we can do as a resitter.

“What did I do so wrong?!”
 “why did I fail?!”
 “Will I ever pass?!”.

I’m here as a gentle reminder that you are a smart Accountant!

Please can you stop over analysing and book your resit!

? Actions speak louder than words ?

Instead of procrastinating and worrying about your fail.

How about ? you rebook your exam and write a revision plan

Instead of over analysing the topics you are rubbish at

How about ? you ensure you keep your knowledge and confidence high with in your great topics.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed with how much you need to relearn

How about ?  you make a list of 10 weaker subtopics and work on revising those through practice questions.

Tweak your revision technique

Especially if you didn’t sit 1 or 2 mocks in full exam conditions.

Please remember the revision phase is about practise and a resitters revision phase is no different.

You may be tempted to go straight back to the study text or videos and relearn the whole syllabus.

WAIT – you don’t have to.

I really don’t think you have to and I don’t coach that method.

Remember to pass your exam you need to answer a set of exam questions within time.

So please can you practice and only focus on that – exam condition practice.

Exam conditions are brand new questions randomly covering the whole syllabus where you sit to time, with no notes and not looking at the answers {until you have 100% finished}

Focus on what you are revising and why – which will lead you to a smarter revision session.

Exam technique

Again you have a choice. You can choose to revise in the same ways – but could you be honest with yourself though – did they really make you a smart accountant? Or did they make you feel knackered, exhausted and hate revising

if yes or maybe – then that’s not the point! ?

Repeat

You can repeat the exam technique you just implemented and the revision technique you went through, which might bring the pass next time. Just make sure you don’t go around in the same circles of despair, lack of confidence and cramming.

Or you can

Tweak

How about tweak and change a couple of techniques so that you focus on subtopic recall, boosting your confidence and having a more relaxed, fun revision journey.

Or maybe you need to

Transform

By radically transforming your techniques to be laser focused on firstly confidence and secondly motivation, then knowledge building comes as a 3rd priority might be the exam technique you need.

The exam techniques you practise will become stronger and more subconscious on exam day – so be smart and focused on these.

Fill your knowledge gaps

Of course the exam ‘might’ have highlighted your lack of knowledge on the syllabus.

But don’t get that confused with not typing or selecting the right answer, or reading the question wrongly.

We all have knowledge gaps by the way, we are learning large syllabuses and there is a vast amount of breath and depth to learn.

My coaching reminder is that you don’t need to know every single word in the study text (ie the knowledge).

What you do need to do is answer the specific questions asked (ie – exam question technique)

When and if you do go back to the book to refresh yourself on a subtopic – make it smart – and focus on the knowledge recall please, instead of memorising all the words of the page.

Repeat after me

Let me remind you again that

You are a smart Accountant!

Just because you are resitting doesn’t mean you are rubbish or in the wrong career.

Please repeat after me
“I can pass my resit because I am smart”

Repeating positive affirmations will give you the confidence and motivation boost you need.

I tell my clients to write positive post-it notes all the time! Having positive sentences around you to repeat, will add a perfect daily boost to you!
